Meet Tquiero: a loving introduction to the South American cuisine.
The moment you walk in you're welcomed with a warm smile & salsa music. The two hosts - who passionately speak Spanish to each other - (I know, passion & Spanish = the same as saying "white snow", it's inevitable) guide you to your table. The tables are simply decorated and the kitchen wall is beautifully covered by bright tiles.
Lunch and dinner
There's an extensive lunch menu available and there are 3 main courses (and tapas of course) to choose from in the evening. We went for the "classic" Chili Con Carne (always on the menu) and the Bolivian hamburgers with a funky tomato sauce and - like always in South America - 2 side dishes: both potato wedges AND rice. The portions were big and everything was finger licking good.
Refined food
South American food has the reputation to be a bit "too heavy" sometimes but the two sweet people at Tquiero really proved it can be refined as well. Expect to pay around €36 for a starter (warm bread basket with hummus, tomato tapenade and herb butter), 2 main dishes, water and wine.
Don't miss it!
Unfortunately Tquiero is easy to miss: although it's located at the Vlaamse Kaai, you don't easily walk by (unless you're going to the Antwerp Retro Market) so it's really a spot you need to know or read about. And you can be sure, it's definitely worth remembering!
