The Bries Space

Years ago, Ria Schulpen started a comic library called Bries. It was 1985 and Bries grew into a comic store and above all a small but adventurous (and important) publisher (among her artist some of Flanders’ finest: Philip Paquet, Pieter De Poortere, Ephameron, Olivier Schrauwen, Serge Baeken, Maarten Vande Wiele, …)

The library and comic shop once located in the Kammenstraat are no more. Luckily the publishing company still exists but more importantly, since February 2011 Bries kind of partly transformed into this exciting creative playground called The Bries Space. 

Together with artist Benjamin Demeyere, Schulpen organises ‘monthly events in the fields of painting, comic art, illustration, graphic design, animation and sculpture. The program includes exhibitions and book presentations as well as performances and workshops for young and old’. The next event is an exhibition by Rui Vitorino Santos. The opening night (6th of july) also includes live sketching from 20h till midnight by numerous artists.
