Last weekend, Born in Antwerp kicked off. And since we are classy ladies after all, we love to go to opening nights like real VIP’s. So we arrived on the red carpet and felt like real Bollywood stars accompanied by a singing Indian Prince. Naturally the singing Prince was only a fraction of our imagination but we think it will tell you more specifically how we experienced the night.
Born in Antwerp is Antwerp's new creative hub. Located at the Kattendijkdok, in an old warehouse, this'll be the place where creative ideas will be shared, discussed and brought into practice for the next six months.
First impression
We almost didn't recognize the actual warehouse because of the beautiful wooden structure inside. The entire construction was made out of wood and stained glass, which gave the place a very homey yet super modern vibe. Extremely relaxing we must say. We climbed some stairs - after grabbing a drink from the bar of course - and arrived in the small cinema hall. Here will a lot of interesting films be portrayed the next few months.
The next room was kind of hidden (or maybe our Prince showed us the wrong way?) but when we found it, we were rather pleased since it contained a lot of art objects from young artists. We were enormous fans of the Cat picture, but that’s all a matter of taste we suppose.
A little bit further down the hall we encountered the CTRLCOPY workspace where a lot of workshops will take place the upcoming months as well. Next to this large workspace, we found another sort of cinema room, but much larger so we guessed that it will be used for readings and presentations.
One of the most convenient things about the headquarters is that it adjoins Bar Paniek, which has an extensive terrace with a view on the docks. So when the sun is out, you can enjoy a little drink after a stroll through the headquarters.
De Invasie
There'll be a lot going on this summer, at the Born in Antwerp HQ. But one perticular event we are stoked about, is De Invasie. This weekend an army of young creatives will take over Antwerp. Their HQ? You guessed it: Born in Antwerp. Drop by, make sure you go take a look on the Eilandje, and get to know the future of the Belgian art and design scene.
More Born in Antwerp?
Our friends from Born in Antwerp developed a sweet little app, for iOS and Android. Containing all information on every event that'll take place the next six months. Currently the app is only available in Dutch, but an English version will soon be up and running!
